Dan Esquivel

Data Scientist / Caffeinated Sports Junkie

Jumping careers from being a Sports Trader to a Data Scientist was a very challenging moment of Dan's professional career as he had to learn a new industry all over again, but he is thankful and glad that he made that jump. He enjoys drinking coffee, and outside of work he loves sports. Dan also describes himself as a food lover! "For someone who is 5’6”, 137 pounds, I do love to eat a lot of food."

Do you have any skills or talents that people don’t know about?
I’m a good singer. But there’s a good reason why people don’t know about it. I like music, but music does not feel the same way for me.

The best piece of advice I’ve ever been given is…
Do not take life too seriously.

What is your most significant accomplishment as a professional?
The very first model I built since shifting to a Data Scientist role is probably my most significant accomplishment as a professional. The business client used the model I built which also jumpstarted the product that they launched. For them to trust the very first model I built was a proud moment of mine.

What was your first job?
I was a sports trader for 7 years. A sports trader’s job is to find prices which are undervalued relative to their real value.
